Selecting a Steinway Piano

Grand Pianos vs. Vertical Pianos

There are of course many crucial factors to consider when selecting your piano. In addition to your own personal musical requirements, room size is also an important factor. A Steinway piano’s sound volume and quality is directly related to the size of the soundboard and length of its strings. The larger the piano, the better it will sound. If you have the available budget and space, then a grand piano would be the optimal selection.

The major difference between a grand piano and a vertical piano is the position of the soundboard. In a grand piano, the soundboard and strings are positioned horizontally; in a vertical piano, they are positioned vertically. Therefore, verticals are commonly called vertical pianos. Another difference is the key action—in a grand piano the action works with gravity and is more responsive than a vertical.

Servicing Your Steinway Piano

Piano PurchasingServicing your piano is an important part of piano ownership and should never be disregarded. There are many options for servicing your piano in Walnut Creek, but you should also be aware of the three basic steps in proper maintenance: tuning, which brings the piano back to pitch; voicing, which affects the piano's quality of sound; and regulation – the adjustment of the action mechanism which affects the touch of the piano.
