The Art of Selecting a Used Steinway
Saturday, February 18th at 10:30am

Today, there are hundreds of options out in the world if you are considering a used or rebuilt Steinway. Seeing as though a Steinway has over 12,000 parts, 4,000 of which move, getting the best and genuine Steinway piano possible is a big deal! Since Steinway pianos are hand-built, one at a time, every piano is unique.

It's a fact that Steinway will not send out major parts/components of their pianos (Soundboard, Pin-block, Bridge etc.) to rebuilders and technicians. They cannot send out these parts for the simple reason that certain parts are all custom fit into each Steinway piano at the factory - it is impossible to accomplish the techniques and have all the equipment and skills needed for these jobs outside of the factory in New York.

In this lecture we will go over this invaluable information to inform you on what to look for and stay away from as you search for the perfect used or rebuilt Steinway piano.

The Science of Steinway & Sound
Saturday, February 25th at 10:30am

For those of you who missed the sold out lecture at the Lafayette Library on the Science of Sound and Steinway pianos - You are invited to attend a smaller and more intimate presentation at Sherman Clay Walnut Creek February 25th from 10:30-11:15am. Local concert pianist and composer Justin Levitt will discuss the science behind the sounds and creation of the Steinway piano.

It's where nature, science, woodworking and a love for music come together. Learn why a piano sounds as it does and how it has evolved through history to become the instrument we know today. You can read the Contra Costa Times Newspaper review of Justin's recent Lecture here and the review from Lafayette Library (Lamorinda Weekly) here.
